I always call it a good Friday, when I used to be in sales, I will always try to drop by at the cemetary to drop my grandparents some flowers... but I guess to many others, it was a black Friday, to some it was their last Friday...
It has been real madness at work this week, deadlines and more deadlines; episode after episode... Finally, Friday was the day when we were supposed to present to our guests, the first presentation was as early as 9.30am. Which meant I had to get into office early, leaving some buffer for unexpected traffic congestion.
I left the house before 7.30am, drove two streets down the road and I noticed someone lying in the middle of the road, stomach down, blood drained face to the side, facing my direction. My first reaction was actually lifting my hand to cover my jaw dropped mouth, no joke, we always see characters in movies covering their mouth when there were in shock, that was exactly what I did without realizing why. I was all goosebumps and hair standing. It was a boy, a kid maximum early twenties, one of his shoes fell off him, my first impression was car accident, someone knocked him down?! Hit and run?! No... he fell off a motorbike perhaps? There was a lady at the side of the road indicating for me to drive through via the side of the road, making sure I did not run over the body, yes, it was a dead body! When I carefully drove passed, I notice blood stained on his still neatly tugged shirt, at his belly area, and while I turned to focus back on the road, I was driving passed a pool of dried blood. What happened??
I tried to make some quick decisions... I simply cannot be late to work that day because the presentation slides was in my laptop, sounded so cruel, I know, mum told me later that night that I should have stopped to render some help... a few more people rushed to the scene, I noticed. Ok, I gave myself a quick check, goshh... I was in total shock, can I even handle another glimpse of the body? I made a decision to leave the scene while tried very very hard to channel all my effort to continuous chanting, the least I can do?
I've managed to call mum later during my lunch break, told her about the incident and she said she had heard, she said the road was blocked and I told her when I passed, the police had not even arrived. Mum said it happened at about 7.30 in the morning! The kid lived just the next street, he was on his way back from work, night shift must have been, a few Indians mugged him and wanted to rob him since he was spotted with a pouch at his waist. He resisted and got stabbed three times, it was of course, fatal. At the end he dropped dead in the middle of the road, receiving no help at the time when he needed most. The murder case was on headlines today, saying he tried to stop these guys from stealing a car and got stabbed instead. Gosh... sometimes news can be so inaccurate, or was the neighbourhood the ones giving inaccurate information?
His mother, didn't get to see his son home that morning, my mum heard that the mother, in total shock was paralyzed at the scene for a long long time. I could imagine...
I've never before imagined being so close to death... my grandmother passed away a few years ago and it was hard but expected of older people. It was really hard for my heart to settle down after witnessing a kid's body, abandoned on the road being so so so close to his home. He could have been asleep, in bed, safe instead of being helplessly laid in the middle of the road!
Of course this bothers me a lot, it bothers the whole neighbourhood a lot too as everyone thought how so unsafe it is near our homes, rob and murder during broad daylight!
Guys/ gals... be extra careful with how you carry your bags, mugging now a days doesn't come as straight forward as we have thought, it's not just about snatching and run, robbers now a days are into hurting and killing. You might think you will get away with it if you voluntarily give up your valuebles, but consider youself really lucky if you only got snatched.
Be very very careful and take real good care of yourselves. May you be protected by your guardian angel all the time...

So, after "packaging" the cakes looked like this...
