Retention

This month, 3 of my colleagues left, okay 4 to be precise because there was a tea lady who came in half a day and call it quit.

What happened?

Lets see... 2 of them resigned because of one senior management staff. Hmm... call him a tough guy, but it's basically rudeness - or you don't use that word on bosses right? - perhaps say no respect towards the staff. Hey, we are not slaves, or worse dogs. Even pets you can't just scold them! Okay, you basically can, but they won't understand or bother about you.

Anyways, this one colleague who left this morning was classic. He has been told off (to put it mildly) on Tuesday and he left after that episode, didn't tell anyone where he was going and didn't respond to sms and phone calls then after. He didn't turn up the next day and my accountant called his wife to check... da da da... he turned up this morning, handed over his laptop, his phone... and left immediately. He couldn't even get himself to stay for a one month notice and was willing to fore go his salary and even face the chances of having to pay the company back for leaving without enough notice.

Or maybe the tea lady's case was more classic? She turned up in the morning, the earliest to arrived, right after me and was asking if there were things that she could do... looks genuinely hardworking and committed to work. She went in later to serve the boss (another boss different from the above) and straight after she came out, she told me EA that she is going to quit. And my big boss told us he didn't say ANYTHING to her. Oh well... his looks kill? Perhaps.

Everyone in the office, including me is just in major bad mood. Okay, not to say bad mood lah, it more of "sien", bored and lazy. Everyone who is still here is supposed to take over all other people's job. There are major changes in job tasks, well call it cross exposure and advancement, or whatever, but whether do these people in question are comfortable with the new task? Are these changes going to bring them nearer to their career goals or completely opposite? Worse still, maybe unclear direction altogether.

I was suddenly told just now that I have to make a trip to Singapore next Wednesday, together with a few colleagues, which sounded like the whole office. Anyways, I have a confirmed order for Friday and cannot afford extended trip. After running through some possible ways to get me out of it and fulfil my delivery, it was just as simple as telling the boss I have prior arrangement on Thursday and I can only do a day or the most overnight trip. And he said okay. For now.

I wonder when is the next drama and who's gonna be the main character this next time. It looks like the "company" just want to get rid of people they don't like, instead of managing them. And my very own MFG got the blame for recruiting "these type" of staff. That includes me? Geezz... obviously staff retention is not a priority.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of companies like this. If not the company itself, it will be the department or divisions.
