I thought the next best variation for a marble cake is a chocolate vanilla cake. Unless the reason for this cake to be his favorite is not the combined flavours of chocolate and butter but the "marble" effect?
Originally, I wanted to make this 4 layers, but I thought there were two major drawbacks: (1) the cake might be too high - as it is now, my cake liner couldn't reach the top of the cake; (2) I would need icing for each layer and it's going to be too sweet - unless I use butter cream perhaps, but too late then.
So, I made my usual chocolate moist cake, with another layer of my usual vanilla flavoured butter cake and the icing is my usual Cadbury chocolate icing. It might just taste like my usual chocolate cake since there is only one layer of butter cake.

The cake was decorated with piped flowers with hazelnut syrup flavoured butter icing. Now I am thinking perhaps I should have used loads of miniature chocolates. And I couldn't find my drop flower nozzle, might I have thrown that away with the disposable piping bag? But so happen I bought a spare one just a few weeks ago...
Actually... I'm not that happy with this cake, it looks a bit messy and unorganized, a bit erm... kelam kabut lah.
